A white butler robot in a bow tie holds an empty silver tray while its power plug lies unplugged by the wall and a calendar, envelope and folder float out of reach. Headline: I built my own Jarvis. It's useless. What's missing? Lovable logo.

It has a screen, a face and a voice. You ask, it answers. It took one afternoon. It can't see my calendar, can't read my mail and doesn't know what my agents did today.

That's the honest state of most AI assistants in 2026: great at talking, not connected to anything that matters.

What it needs before it earns its place:

  1. 1Read access to the three things you check every morning: mail, calendar, tasks.
  2. 2One folder it can read, so it knows what you know.
  3. 3One job it does better than you, every single day.
The face is the easy part. The plumbing is the work.

What would your assistant need to know before it's actually useful?
